Cyber tools for UK schools!

The NCSC’s free Web Check and Mail Check services can help protect schools from cyber attacks.

Two NCSC cyber security services, which are already helping thousands of organisations to protect their websites and email servers from cyber attacks, are now available to all UK schools.

Both tools are available free of charge, are quick to set up, and thereafter run automatically.

The first service, Web Check, helps you identify and fix common security issues in your websites. Web Check automatically scans your websites for common web vulnerabilities and misconfigurations. The service will automatically send you a report with the scan results, categorised by severity, together with advice on how to fix any identified problems. You should act on any recommendations in these reports and we can assist in both the setup, the monitoring and applying the necessary actions.

The other service, Mail Check, helps assess your email security compliance and adopt secure email standards. Put simply, Mail Check makes it harder for attackers to spoof you by helping you to set up and maintain good Sender Policy Framework (SPF), Domain Keys Identified Mail (DKIM), and Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) configurations. Mail Check requires a little more input and an ongoing commitment so please get in touch and we can set this up. Mail Check will generate email notifications to alert you if there have been changes in your email security.

The internet and IT is integral to how schools operate. Unfortunately, vulnerabilities are often found and exploited by cyber criminals, resulting in serious disruption to teaching and back-office functions, which can force schools to close.

Get in touch today and we can register your school for Web Check and Mail Check services on MyNCSC by following the registration paths on the NCSC website. Doing so will make your school less likely to be a victim of a cyber attack.
